Exploring on the South Valley Bike Trail (Again)

SOUTH VALLEY BIKE TRAIL--One of the things that makes Bob Evans such a ideal riding partner is that he loves to explore. Here we are at the river near where the diversion channel enters the Rio Grande. They are hauling a lot of dirt from this area. I assume they are improving the delta where the channel ends. What a treat to feel such solitude minutes from the metro area.

By the way, this spot is only about 1/2 a mile from the Confederate soldiers' camp as they journeyed to and from Glorieta Pass. They actually camped just south of the diversion channel near present day Shirk Rd., on what was then the farm of southern sympathizer Judge Baird.
