This picture taken by Bohnsack shows the Zia Motor Lodge surrounded by barbed wire and a chainlink fence awaiting demolition. It had become a home for druggies, criminals, and various travelling street people. The mayor's task force had the property condemned as being substandard housing. Almost any vintage motel on Central Ave. would fall into the same category. What it amounted to was tearing down the motel to get rid of the people. Unfortunately for the motel, it was much too hard to clean up the neighborhood.
